Do you accept insurance?
I accept Arizona Foundation and First Health.  I will provide a receipt for out-of-network plans.  If you have questions about your benefits, I'm happy to help.

What types of payment do you accept?
Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted. Payment is due at the beginning of each counseling session.

How do you pronounce your name?
It's pronounced Dee-Nan.  Feel free to ask if you need to hear it again.

What can I expect on the first visit?
During the first visit we will review the paperwork and discuss why you are seeking treatment at this time.  By the end of the session, I will offer  feedback on if and how I think my services will be of benefit and we will discuss a plan for treatment.

How long do sessions last?
Counseling sessions are 50 minutes. Longer sessions can be arranged and couples tend to prefer meeting for 75-90 minutes.

How often do I need to come to sessions?
I typically recommend weekly visits, at least initially, but some clients come every other week.  We'll work together to develop a plan that will support your goals and fit your budget and schedule. Counseling is typically most effective when sessions are consistent.

What are your credentials?
I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and I have a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. I am also a State Approved Supervisor and a Registered Play-Therapist Supervisor.

What does it mean to be a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor (RPT-S)?
To acquire this designation, one must have a Masters Degree and complete a minimum of 5000 client hours, 1000 hours of Play Therapy,   150 hours of Play Therapy training and at least 50 hours of Play Therapy supervision as well as be a state approved supervisor.  This is the highest credential one can receive through the Association for Play Therapy.

Do you have a specialty?
Yes, I specialize in working with couples as well as young children.  Although I am trained as a generalist, I have had extensive advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples as well as Child/Play Therapy for young children. For additional information, click here.

How long will it take to see results?
This depends on what we are working on, how consistently you or your  child/family is able to attend and how committed you are to working on changes outside of counseling. Many clients, whether individuals, couples or children, begin to experience relief within the first few sessions. Sometimes, clients find issues resolved within a number of weeks, others, stay in treatment for several months or a year.

Isn't counseling for "crazy" people?
Many people share the concern that if they seek out counseling, they must be "crazy."  It does not mean that at all.  It means that you are having worries, concerns, feelings or challenges that might be leaving you confused or overwhelmed. It is a positive sign to want more from your life, your relationships and for your family and to seek relief and understanding.

What kinds of things do people want help with?
Some of the areas that I work with in my practice include: anxiety,
stress, low self-esteem, divorce, parenting difficulties, recovering from emotional/verbal abuse, relationship difficulties, infidelity, lack of trust, lack of communication, sibling rivalry, blended family issues, child behavior problems, low confidence, career exploration, creativity, and personal growth.
