Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor

I specialize in working with young children (ages 3-8). I understand and respect that it is an important decision to bring your young child to counseling. I work closely with child and parents throughout the entire treatment process.
When I work with young children in counseling, I often use a form of therapy called Play Therapy. Play Therapyis based on the knowledge that children communicate their thoughts and feelings through play, just as adults communicate with language. People are sometimes concerned that if children come to counseling and "just play" that it will not be helpful. In fact, the opposite is true.
When children are given the opportunity to express their feelings through therapeutic play, the resolution of behavioral and emotional challenges can begin.
I am a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor and have had extensive training in Play Therapy. Iuse only those methods that are known to have positive results.
When working with older children, I continue to integrate their interests and strengths into therapy (music, art, reading, etc) as a way to connect and support the counseling process.
I often meet with the child and parent(s) together as well as individual sessions with the child. Parents are a vital part of treatment and I regularly meet with parents for consultation.
Areas of treatment in my practice include:
- Behavior Problems
- Separation/Divorce/Blended Families
- Trauma
- Sibling Rivalry
- School Difficulties
- Social Skills
- Anxiety, Depression & Stress
- Parent-Child Relationship
- Parenting Consultation
